WELCOME TO KOREA: Kim Jong-un oversaw the country’s biggest-ever live-fire exercise

“The brave artillerymen mercilessly hit targets”

Kim’s forces executed the exercise as they marked 85th anniversary of the army’s founding yesterday.

At the same time, Donald Trump’s self-described armada, led by the USS Carl Vinson, was steaming towards Korea.

North Korean broadcaster KCNA said Kim Jong-un personally ordered the guns, located on the eastern coast, to open fire.

It said: “After receiving the report on the plan for the combined fire demonstration, he gave an order to start the fire demonstration.

“Watching the exciting scenery, the leader praised the seamen of submarines and pilots for hitting targets every time.

“More than 300 large-caliber self-propelled guns lined up along the coast opened fire all at once.

“The brave artillerymen mercilessly and satisfactorily hit the targets and the gunshots were very correct, he said.”

EXPLOSIVE: Kim hailed his gunners for ‘mercilessly’ hitting their targets

Lee Duk-haeng of South Korea’s Unification Ministry said the drill seemed planned to inspire confidence in the North’s army.

“North Korea appeared to show off its military capabilities by mobilising (its assets) including fighter jets and submarines,” he said.

“To mark the anniversary, the country also seemed to aim to inspire the military’s self-confidence [through the drill] internally.”

Kim was yesterday told by China that North Korea was at the “point of no return” in its growing confrontation with the US.
