On Friday, Attorney General Jeff Sessions “asked” the remaining Obama-appointed U.S. attorneys to submit their resignations.  But Preet Bharara, a U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, is reportedly refusing to obey that order.

According to The Hill:

“HOLDOVER: Bharara is not submitting his resignation, according to several ppl briefed – WH not responding to what they’ll do next,” the New York Times’s Maggie Haberman tweeted Saturday.

CNN’s Jake Tapper also reported that Bharara was refusing to resign.

Brian Kolb, the New York State Assembly’s Republican leader, tweeted his support of Bharara in the wake of the reports.

Good for Preet, he is doing the job he was appointed to do! https://twitter.com/cnnadam/status/840605235894706176

Apparently, Kolb is okay with this…

HOLDOVER: Bharara is not submitting his resignation, according to several ppl briefed – WH not responding to what they’ll do next.

CNN’s Jake Tapper added:

Then-prez-elect Trump met with @PreetBharara in November, asked him to stay on the job, told him to go tell cameras “I asked you to stay”…

…this according to source familiar w meeting and what @PreetBharara told reporters afterwards. WH no comment yet on why change of mind…

Furthermore, the Hill said that Bharara may challenge Sessions to fire him:

The Justice Department (DOJ) announced Friday that Sessions called for the former attorneys to resign. Of the 93 U.S. attorneys, 46 remain from the past administration, according to the DOJ.

The call for resignations applies to all Senate-confirmed U.S. Attorneys, including Bharara.

It came as a surprise, as Bharara reportedly met with Trump after the election and agreed to remain in his position during the Trump administration. Sessions also asked him to stay, the prosecutor told The New York Times.

According to an exclusive report by The Daily Beast late Friday, Bharara told his section chiefs that he’d yet to submit the requested letter and may instead challenge Sessions to fire him.

That’ll work as well…

Liberals, Twitchy said, are losing their cookies over Sessions’ request:

Disturbing that 46 US Attorneys asked to resign. Need all US Attorney Offices at full strength. https://twitter.com/washingtonpost/status/840321380625338371

Translation: Waaaah!!!

I’m very concerned about the effect of the firing of all 46 U.S. attorneys on federal law enforcement. http://bit.ly/2mbYWsX

The White House counsel told me there would be an orderly transition, as has been done previously. Clearly this is not the case.

Of course, it doesn’t matter that other presidents have done this as well:

This is dumb. All presidents do this. Stop trying to make deep state conspiracies happen, Matthew. https://twitter.com/matthewamiller/status/840301509850103808

Reminder: upon taking office Bill Clinton fired ALL of the U.S. Attorneys. As in all of them. All 93 of them.

There was no scandal.

Of course not.  That’s because Clinton is a Democrat, and everyone knows there’s a different standard for Republicans…
